How I keep my internet usage private – sent by SSJ
SSJ– I’ve been quite concerned with privacy issues recently. It seems everyone wants to know everything about your life. Being a frequent reader of firearms and similar web sites and forums I am concerned that at some point in the future my profile will reveal my interests and concerns. Having marketing companies profiling me with the information available to anyone who is willing to purchase it sends chills up my spine. People think that the internet is anonymous, unfortunately while that may have been the case 15 years ago it’s not the case today.
There are many steps to keep your privacy on line. The first is to use an Offshore VPN service to change your IP address and keep your ISP from profiling you. This is important because your ISP knows exactly who you are and where you live. They have your phone number, likely your social security number and more. Having all this information and allowing them to monitor every web site you go to and be able to scan every post you make is just crazy.
As I said, the VPN service is the first big step in reclaiming your privacy. I would recommend an offshore service to take your traffic outside of your country for added security.
There are many more steps involved in keeping your privacy including how your computer keeps track of what you do. This FAQ page describes it in detail.
Thank you for providing some unique perspectives on the firearms scene and I hope my input can be helpful to some of your readers.

Cheap 223 ammo – sent by RA
RA – Just wanted to let you readers know that many online stores and even Wal-Mart has recently had Federal Lake City 5.56x45mm M855 62 Gr Green Tip FMJ 420 Rounds w/Ammo Can on sale for as low as $150.00.
I think this is a good way to stock up on cheap mil spec ammunition.
FAS - Thanks for the tip. We saw this a few months ago. It looks like much of it has been sold out. However it’s probably worth a check of your local store because it’s a good deal. There is some debate whether this ammunition is from an overrun of production of military ammo or if it's seconds that didn't meet full military specification. All reports are in and our testing shows that the ammo is top of the line quality either way.
Note: This is 5.56 military ammo and has to be shot in a 5.56 mm chamber. If your weapon has a .223 Remington chamber do not use this ammunition.

Lock security – sent by AJ
AJ –A lot of firearms owners invest a lot of time and money on gun safes to secure their weapons. Which of course is an excellent idea. However, the first line of defense are the doors of your house. If you can dissuade the potential thief from entering your house in the first place, you increase the odds that the thief will never even see your safe.
Once the thief is in your house he is concealed, so they have a lot more time to work at getting your safe open or even lifting it and taking the entire thing.
However, when they are trying to enter your house they need a quick and easy entry. Every minute they are exposed outside increases their odds of being caught.
The locks you find at the local big box stores are very easy to pick. The thief uses a technique called bumping that anyone can learn to do. There are videos on YouTube of children being taught how to do it in just a few minutes. You don’t have to be a locksmith or a master thief to bump a lock open.
The best locks in the world that are totally bump proof and unpickable even by master locksmiths are made by Abloy and BiLock. These locks are much more expensive than your big box store locks. But they will prevent anyone from picking your lock and gaining entry into your house. Compared to your investment in firearms and gun safes they are a cheap insurance policy.
FAS - Thank you
