Magpul is a well know name in the firearms industry. Their P-Mag magazines are highly regarded and very reliable. The Magpul anti-tilt follower, used in their factory magazines, is also available as a stand alone part for retro-fitting into standard GI type metal magazines. The main claim to this follower is that it will not tilt under pressure. The picture below shows a conventional follower and how it tilts downward under pressure, which can causes feeding failures. We also show the Magpul follower and how it doesn't tilt. Magpul received a patent on this design in 2009 (US 7,621,063 B2). The design is simple and it works. Reliability of magazines retro-fitted with the Magpul follower usually increases dramatically, assuming there are no other flaws to the magazine body itself. Oftentimes, using the follower in metal, GI-style magazines allows the magazine to be loaded to full capacity instead of having to download by a couple of rounds, as is commonly done to ensure feed reliability. Several well known, aftermarket magazine manufacturers now offer Magpul followers as an option for their factory produced GI-style magazines. We've fired hundreds of rounds through these upgraded GI magazines and have not had a single failure to feed. Prior to conversion, these magazines failed to feed on several occasions. This is a highly recommended and low cost upgrade for anyone shooting AR and M4 type rifles with classic metal magazines.
